In 2005, childhood friends Mike Kirban and Ira Liran got chatting to two women from Brazil. When asked what they missed most about their country, they replied “agua de coco”, the most delicious and nutritious drink in the world.
Intrigued, the guys did some research and found that the hype was in fact real. Two months later they hopped on a plane to Brazil with a plan to bring coconut water to the US…Vita Coco was born.
15 years later, Vita Coco is the world’s number one coconut water brand and we owe that to our commitment to continual innovation (that means more stuff), our ongoing desire to positively impact our employees, local and wider communities, and the environment and, of course, our growing community of coconut-loving customers!
From Farm to Fridge
Where We Source
We started with one farm in Brazil, and now we’re proud to work with farmers around the world in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
How We Harvest
Some climb 100-foot tall trees while some poke them down with bamboo machete sticks. Whatever the method, our farmers do some seriously impressive work to get us our coconuts.
No Parts Wasted
The liquid inside makes up our water, while the coconut meat is used for our oil and milk, Our factories even use the husk as a fuel source and the farmers even place used husks around palm trees as a natural fertilizer.
The Vita Coco Project
We’re nothing without our farmers, which is why we’re committed to helping impact 1million people in our coconut farming communities.
Vita Coco EMEA is now certified as a B Corporation! This means we’re committed to and meet the highest standards of social and environmental impact
